Ripples in the Water: Reflections and Updates

Hi there. As I love to write (please remember, love for something speaks nothing of one's profectiency in that thing) this page is just a series of reflections on youth ministry, faith, culture, the occasional iced cappuccino, and well, all things within the sacramental imagination. "In the experience of great love, all things that happen are events related to it."

In the presence of the greatest of loves, all things are encompassed within, drawn together, and find their place within this divine romance know as Catholicism. What was always there, always present in the events of our lives, reveals itself to be a person, a presence. In the wake of such a love, all things, like constellations under the horizon of the night sky, suddenly dance brightly against the darkness...Christ enters in and life finally begins...

Pax Christi

"He himself is our peace" (Ephesians 2:14)

How can Christ be our peace? How is it that peace in the end is not a feeling, a state of mind, or the circumstance that separates one war from the next? In my heart, there is a mix of many things. I wish I could say that I was a man of peace, but often my peace is just a feeling, a state of mind, or those moments where things settle down just long enough for me to forget the past and ignore the reality of the future. How does Christ make a difference? How will his peace break through not just my lack of peace, but even the false peace that I grasp for? If he is Himself our peace, how will he make himself known not only in my need but also in my contentment?

"He himself is our peace" (Ephesians 2:14)

I've longed for peace my entire life. Restless as a kid, my desire for peace took the form of fantasy. Every world I created in my mind was a reflection of the world I lived in. Every world I made up needed a hero to bring peace. The principle present even in the imagination of a kid was this: whether it was ninja turtles fighting the foot clan or G.I. Joes battling forces of Cobra Commander, the path towards peace was always war.

Theology of the Body: bonefire and a few notes

God deisres an intense relationship with each of us and he wrote that into our very bodies. He created us to reflect his plan for us in our bodies themselves. How do we uncover the meaning, purpose, destiny of our lives if we don't become literate to the language of love.

Bonfires require lighters, wood, and a place to set the whole mess ablaze. "Bonefires" that follow theology of the body sessions can make accidently spelling mistakes appear to be otherwise.

Will My Pet Be In Heaven - Animal Rights and Wrongs

Two books perfectly placed. Priceless and painful

Dear Catholic bookstore, what has happened to shelves filled with meaningful books? Really Friar Jack? Really? How did we come to this when he gets prime real estate anywhere other than a used book sale? With silly theology that places secondary questions first, maybe ones pet should be asking if they will see their owners (or authors?) in heaven, not the other way around.

rising to fall, falling to die

For the righteous man falls seven times and rises again..."
-Proverbs 24:16

In my failures, I fall. In my falling I forget. Salvation is remembering...
